Benefits and Drawbacks for Steel Posts on Your Wooden Fence

If you don’t know whether or not to put steel posts on your wooden fence, here are the pros and cons these posts have.

If you’re going to get a wooden fence installed in the near future, you might think that installing steel posts for your fence could be a great idea. Many people think these posts are only suitable for chain-link fences. While those fences make great use of steel posts, there are plenty of reasons to use them on other kinds of fences as well. If you don’t know whether or not to put steel posts on your wooden fence, here are the pros and cons these posts have.

Benefits of Steel Posts for a Wooden Fence

Steel posts have an economic advantage by being less expensive to install than other kinds of posts. This makes them a great selection if you’re trying to install your fence on more of a budget.

These posts are also capable of being bent back into their original shape if they ever get bent by something like heavy impact or severe weather. If your posts are ever damaged to the point that you can’t repair your fence anymore, you can replace them in an economical manner.

The third point is that steel posts are simply a strong and durable addition to your fence. They give your fence extra strength and protection so that it will last much longer. The longer your fence lasts, the better because you’ll go longer without having to replace your fence, which also puts more money in your pocket.

Lastly, steel posts can be made to be resistant to rust. Just be sure that you get posts that were designed to be rust-resistant.

Cons Steel Posts Have for a Wooden Fence

Steel fence posts aren’t necessarily made with appearance in mind. While they do a wonderful job of providing support and structure to a fence, they don’t always provide the most curb appeal. You may need to conceal your posts if you want to maintain a natural look for your fence.

Another aspect of fences to consider is how much privacy they offer. Steel fence posts can be worked into the design of a privacy fence. However, if you want to use prefabricated panels, you might not be able to do this easily because of spacing concerns. If you have to install even more supports between the steel posts you have, it will be tougher to build your fence if you’re on a tighter budget. If you want to have a fence with more height, you also might have to get rid of fence posts you already have first.
