Summer can be a tough season for our outdoor landscapes, including our fences, so the more moderate weather of fall will be a huge welcome. With that said, winter will be here before we know it, and winter can be just as brutal to our fences as fall. That’s why it’s important to get a lot of preventative fence maintenance done this season so you can be ready when winter arrives. Here are fence maintenance suggestions we have for you during the fall season.
Trim Any Vegetation You Have
The summer weather helps promote vegetation growth around your fence, and while we want our plants to thrive, you don’t want them to grow too much. Trimming back the vegetation surrounding your fence is an important part of fence maintenance because it’s this vegetation that could be hiding noteworthy damage your fence has sustained. Once greenery has been trimmed back, you’ll be able to inspect your fencing more easily and address any damage it has taken.
Make Cleaning a Part of Fence Maintenance
Cleaning is a fairly standard part of fence maintenance. To do this, you typically just need to spray your fence down with a hose, and you’ll be good to go. Avoid using pressure washers for this job because, while they are more effective at removing dirt, they can cause damage to your fencing because of the extra force that pressure washers put out. It might also be a good idea to look at different fence cleaners. If you aren’t sure what cleaner to use, a fencing company could give you advice on what cleaners would be effective, based on the kind of fence that you have.
Add Stain or Paint to Your Fence
Any fence can benefit from being stained or painted. Not only do staining and painting give you the chance to reinvent the look of your fence, but they also offer your fence a layer of protection from unpleasant weather conditions. Do note that you shouldn’t perform painting or staining if your fence is damaged in any way. Fence damage should always be addressed before you carry out painting or staining.
