Four Signs That You Have to Give Your House a New Paint Job

Four Signs That You Have to Give Your House a New Paint Job

Here are four signs to watch for that indicate your house should have a new paint job.

While there may be general guidelines regarding how often to paint your house, you might be unsure of the last time it was actually painted. However, your house will start showing signs when the time is getting closer for repainting. Here are four signs to watch for that indicate your house should have a new paint job.

Damaged Wood

Even though paint helps protect surfaces against the weather, those surfaces will eventually give out. For wooden exteriors, this means you will eventually see rotting. Once this happens, you’ll have to take a look at the damage and get the surface repaired. After that, apply a new coat of paint to your house so it can be protected against the elements once again.

Bubbling, Cracked, or Peeling Paint

You need to do something the moment you see paint cracking, peeling, or bubbling. The paint, as mentioned earlier, serves as a protective barrier against the weather, and that protection gets weaker once the paint starts coming off. As an example, you could start seeing mold grow on your house if it gets direct exposure to rain. Rather than deal with bigger problems later on, take the time to paint the house, perhaps with the help of a professional painting company. A professional is often advised because they can find problems with your house that you may not have even noticed. Finding problems early on allows you to fix them sooner and for a lower price.

Cracked Caulking

Caulking is often found around doors and windows, and it serves as a sealant. If you start seeing cracked caulking, filling those cracks with fresh caulking is needed. If you don’t address the problem, moisture can get into your house and cause a great deal of damage. Replacing the caulking entirely is a better option if you notice larger cracks. After that, painting your house can give you additional protection.

Moisture Stains and Mold

Sometimes, moisture stains and mold are easily wiped away or handled with a little power washing. But just because you can deal with an initial problem, that doesn’t mean there are other problems to address.

If you find yourself unable to remove a stain, contact a professional so they can look at it. A lot of stains just need new paint put over them. However, if there is a considerable amount of damage, the material might need to be completely replaced.
