Vinyl Fence Repair FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Vinyl Fence Repair FAQs

While the average wood fence lasts 20 years, a vinyl fence can last much longer with regular maintenance…but where do you start?

As homeowners, we don’t like to think about the lifecycle of our big investments, but, as they say, everything must come to an end – even your new vinyl fence. However, you have quite a ways to go before you have to worry about replacement. For now, repairs will be your biggest concern. While the average wood fence lasts 20 years, a vinyl fence can last much longer with regular maintenance…but where do you start?

Frequently Asked Questions about Vinyl Fence Repair

While a vinyl fence requires minimal maintenance, it does require some maintenance, including occasional repairs.

If a Vinyl Fence Is Cracked or Has a Hole, Does It Need to Be Replaced?

Well, that depends. How severe is the cracking or hole? Small cracks and holes can be easily repaired by the average homeowner. Larger issues may require the replacing of a part or section of the fence.

What Materials Are Needed to Repair a Vinyl Fence?

Before doing anything else, thoroughly clean the fence using your garden hose and a household cleaner if need be. When the fence has dried, repair the small hole or crack using PVC (polyvinyl chloride) glue. This adhesive material will fill in the affected area and help your fence look as good as new…or close to it.

Larger cracks are a different story.

When a Vinyl Fence Is Repaired, Is It as Strong as It Was Before?

Quite frankly, no. Unless the damaged portion is completely replaced, it will never be as strong and durable as it once was.

Do I Need a Building Permit?

Larger projects may require you tp pull a building permit. Always check with your local authorities before beginning any major home improvement project.
